The first couple of days after adopting your new Yorkie puppy should be quiet and stress free for him. Being away from his mother and siblings is a trying time for a puppy, so give lots of love and reassurance. Your puppy will be sent home with a new toy with his siblings and mothers scent on it to help calm him.

Keep playtime to 30 minute intervals and then let him rest. If you have children, have them only hold the puppy while sitting on the floor. Your puppy could easily jump out of a childs arms and injure himself.

Keep fresh water down at all times. Make sure your puppy is eating 3 times a day. Please continue to feed the puppy food we have supplied for two weeks. If you decide to change to another brand of food, do it gradually.

Please don't take your new Yorkshire Terrier puppy to dog parks or put him on the floor at pet supply stores or in the vets office until the whole series of vaccinations have been given.

We believe crate training is a great way to house train your puppy. His crate will be his safe haven where he can go to relax or nap. When you are away he will be safe in his crate and so will your belongings. Do not expect your puppy to stay in his crate for extended periods while he is young. They cannot hold their bladders until 6 months of age.

Your puppy will have already started his potty training with pee pads. Take your puppy outside upon awakening, after meals and after play. Each time he is successful give lots of praise. We also suggest adding a bell on a string to your back door so that everytime you take him out help him to nudge the bell with his nose before going out, soon he will ring the bell on his own to alert you that he needs to go out.

Puppies love to chew, so lots of toys to play with will help with teething and save your toes!

We will always be here for you and your new puppy, so feel free to e-mail or call and chat for any reason.
